Family life moves fast. One minute you’re chasing toddlers, the next they’re taller than you. A family photo session hits pause—just for a second—so you can hold onto this season before it slips by.

If you’ve been meaning to book one but keep putting it off, here’s what to expect, how to prepare, and why now’s a good time to do it.

When to Book

I recommend reaching out at least 4–6 weeks in advance, especially if you want a weekend slot or you're aiming for fall (peak season). Spring and early fall are ideal for weather and light, but we can make great images in any season.

Want golden hour magic? We’ll aim for early morning or right before sunset for that soft, flattering light.

What to Expect

My sessions are relaxed and kid-friendly. We’ll keep things moving, have some fun, and get those natural smiles—no forced poses or awkward moments.

Sessions typically last 30–40 minutes. That gives us enough time to get individual shots, group portraits, and a few candid moments without wearing everyone out.

Worried your toddler won’t cooperate? That’s normal. I work with the chaos, not against it.

What to Wear

Simple, coordinated (not matching) outfits photograph best. Stick to neutral tones or soft colors and avoid big logos or busy patterns.

Not sure what works together? I’ll send you a quick style guide after you book. Easy. I even have a client closet for mom and littles. I can send over a gallery of what I have in stock.

Location Ideas

Some of my favorite spots for family sessions:

  • Nippersink — great for open fields and trees
  • Downtown Grayslake— more candid, lifestyle feel
  • Your own home — perfect for newborns or cozy, everyday vibes

If you’re not sure, I’ll help you pick based on the look you want.

How to Book

Booking is simple: just click here. Tell me a little about your family, your preferred time frame, and I’ll take it from there.

You don’t have to be “photo ready” or have it all figured out. Just show up as you are—I’ll handle the rest.

Family photos aren’t just for now. They’re for ten, twenty, fifty years from now. Let’s make sure this season doesn’t slip away without being captured.
