As a wedding photographer, there are certain venues that instantly spark excitement, and LondonHouse Chicago is one of them. Nestled in the heart of downtown with breathtaking views of the Chicago River and skyline, it’s a dream location for any couple—and any photographer. This past year, I had the incredible opportunity to shoot a wedding atop this stunning venue, an experience that solidified my love for capturing once-in-a-lifetime moments in extraordinary settings.
A Year of Growth: 21 Weddings in Chicago
Before I dive into the details of the wedding day, I want to reflect on my journey. That year, I photographed 21 weddings with a Chicago-based photography company. I was determined to gain as much experience as possible, immersing myself in different styles, venues, and lighting situations. Each wedding taught me something new—how to adapt, problem-solve, and, most importantly, tell each couple’s story authentically.
The LondonHouse Experience
Shooting at LondonHouse Chicago was a career highlight. Perched high above the city, the rooftop provided a breathtaking backdrop for the ceremony. The 360-degree views of downtown Chicago, mixed with the elegance of the venue, made for the perfect blend of modern luxury and timeless romance.
From the moment I arrived, I knew this wedding was special. The couple exchanged vows with the city skyline glowing behind them, golden-hour light casting the perfect soft glow. Every detail, from the floral arrangements to the bride’s stunning gown, felt like it was straight out of a magazine.
Capturing the Magic
One of the biggest challenges of rooftop weddings is the ever-changing light and weather conditions. The sun, wind, and reflections from surrounding buildings all play a role in how a shot comes together. But with experience, I’ve learned how to adapt quickly—adjusting angles, exposure, and composition to create the most flattering and dynamic images.
Some of my favorite moments from the day included:
📸 The first look on the rooftop, where the groom’s reaction was pure, unscripted emotion.
📸 Candid laughter during golden hour, when the city lights started to twinkle in the background.
📸 A magical, romantic shot of the couple dancing under the night sky, with Chicago’s iconic architecture illuminated behind them.
Looking Ahead
This experience reaffirmed why I love what I do. Shooting at LondonHouse Chicago was a reminder that wedding photography is not just about beautiful pictures—it’s about preserving emotions, telling stories, and creating memories that last a lifetime.
With 21 weddings under my belt that year, I walked away with not only a wealth of experience but also a deep appreciation for the art of wedding photography. Each couple’s love story is unique, and I’m honored every time I get to document it.
