There’s something about late summer in Lake County that feels absolutely magical, especially when the wildflowers are still in full bloom. Michelle’s family session was one of those picture-perfect evenings where everything came together. The weather was gorgeous, the light was golden, and the scenery was breathtaking.
Michelle did such a wonderful job coordinating outfits for her crew. With three kids ranging from about 8 to 13, she found the perfect balance—everyone looked cohesive without being too “matchy,” which always photographs so beautifully.
One of the things I loved most about this session was how relaxed the kids were. Older kids can sometimes be a little camera-shy, but these three were total naturals. They laughed, played along, and gave us some truly genuine smiles. Michelle’s request was for family poses that didn’t feel overly staged, so we focused on natural interactions, sweet connections, and those intimate, in-between moments that tell the real story of a family.
From walking through the trails lined with blooming wildflowers to those quiet moments where everyone snuggled in close, this evening felt effortless. The result? A gallery full of both joyful energy and quiet tenderness, exactly what Michelle had envisioned.
Lake County forest preserves are one of my favorite spots for sessions, and nights like this are the reason why. The combination of gorgeous light, open space, and a relaxed family makes for timeless images you’ll treasure for years to come.
