There is something so special about being trusted with one of the biggest moments in a couple's story, and this surprise engagement was no exception.
Devon reached out weeks before the proposal and carefully planned every detail. The evening started with dinner, giving the couple a chance to enjoy some time together before heading out for a walk at one of Lake County's beautiful forest preserves. While it may have seemed like a simple evening stroll to her, Devon had something much bigger in mind.
As I waited nearby, trying my best to blend in, I noticed there were several other photographers at the preserve that evening. I'll admit, I started to get a little nervous. With cameras everywhere, I wondered if she might start putting the pieces together and realize something was about to happen.
But she had absolutely no idea.
When Devon dropped to one knee, the surprise on her face said it all. The moment was filled with pure emotion, excitement, and the kind of joy that makes surprise proposals so unforgettable. From the shock of realizing what was happening to the happy tears and laughter that followed, it was a privilege to capture every second.
After the proposal, we spent some time exploring the preserve and taking engagement photos while the excitement was still fresh. Those first moments as a newly engaged couple are always some of my favorites to photograph. Everything feels a little brighter, and the happiness is completely genuine.
